When my 20-year-old daughter asks me for advice, I preface my suggestions with "what worked for me 30 years ago may not work for you today, but here is what the 20-year-old version of me did back then and what I learned from that experience... and here is how the 50-year-old version of me might react now, given what I know and how my view of the world has changed."
I add, "lots of things change in time, but our morals don't have to be compromised during this process. Hold on to your truth but be willing to learn and change your behavior in a positive way to better your next outcome."
Even what worked for me yesterday may not work for me today. I have learned that at any given moment in time, I am capable of putting my best foot forward. I aim to do the best I can with the information I have at that point in time. To fret and worry over what I should have done in the past is not productive. I am guilty of having done it too many times. However, I have learned I can be sad or disappointed for a moment, but I can choose not to wallow in defeat nor sadness... not to fall down the rabbit hole of despair.
There are so many better ways to make use of time. Enjoy your moments here on earth. Be grateful for your blessings. Help others if you are able. And yes, you are able. Place value in people over things. Trust that everything is always working out for your good.
